Old Saybrook High Seniors Jacob Schneider (Cross Country), Taylor Stone (Field Hockey), Kayla Holt (Field Hockey), Carter Gibson (Soccer), and Matt Rothman (Soccer) were selected by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association as 2021 All-State Scholar Athletes.

To be granted this prestigious honor, a scholar athlete must meet high standards on the athletic field and in the classroom. Requirements to be considered as an all-state scholar athlete include a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher over a four year high school career, be in good standing with the local school community, and exhibit outstanding character and citizenship in school, in competition, and and in the community. Candidates must also have been chosen by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association as a first team all-state athlete for their sport while competing during their senior year.

Before an All-State Scholar Athlete is chosen, they must first be nominated by their high school athletic director and principal. Old Saybrook High School Principal Sheila Riffle remarked, “We could not be more proud of the growth and accomplishments of our Old Saybrook High School Fall Scholar Athletes. Every one of them exemplifies a commitment to excellence both in the classroom, as well as at their chosen sport.  What makes them even more special is that they are incredibly kind and personable individuals, as well! GO RAMS!” Old Saybrook Athletic Director Brendan Saunders added, “These young men and women are the definition of what Old Saybrook looks for in a student-athlete. Their tremendous dedication to academics and athletics is commendable.”
