Old Saybrook Public Schools’ Staff and Families, M and J Bus Company Staff and Community Partners,

This message comes from a grateful superintendent who is proud and happy that our schools have been open this year because of the hard work and dedication you gave to our reopening plan and mitigation techniques. Now, I am pleading with our staff, families, students, and community partners to listen to the concerns of the experts regarding the next few weeks. The pandemic is not gone. Cases have taken an upturn in many places in the United States, including Connecticut. National and state experts are making dire predictions about the impact of states reopening and individuals traveling over the coming months while variants continue to develop. It is going to take hard work and the personal responsibility of each of us to keep our schools open through the end of the year. This morning, at a weekly meeting with superintendents, the State Department of Education and the Department of Public Health were very clear about their worries for the coming month and shared the following document, Finish Strong, dated March 29, 2021. There is a section for staff and another for parents. Please review the section(s) that pertain to you.

We are making plans for end of year events, but we will keep watching the case trends across the state. If we have to cancel events to keep schools open and children and families safe, we will do that.

Many adults are receiving their vaccines and this should help us as we proceed, but our children  are unvaccinated so let’s keep them safe by continuing to wear masks, wash our hands, social distance, isolate from large crowds and take all precautions when traveling or gathering.

Thank you for your continued support of our community’s efforts.
