Cooper Pavlovich

In 2017, Cooper was recognized as the Jack of All Trades Football player. Truly, this award could encompass Cooper’s entire high school career. Cooper is an outstanding member of our football and baseball teams, and is a phenomenal role model in our school community as a Link Leader and a National Honor Society Member. Cooper has also been able to enhance his leadership skills as a sailing instructor, adjusting his instruction to the various needs of learners of all ages. For his Capstone Project, which Cooper completed in his junior year, he rebuilt flooded bridges throughout town park trails for the Town of Old Saybrook that had been flooded. This project required Cooper to work with and seek the approval of the town Wetlands Commission and Parks and Recreation Department. This past summer, Cooper was accepted to the Academy Introduction Mission (AIM) summer program at the Coast Guard Academy. Cooper is applying to military academies, as well as maritime schools and he is planning to study naval architecture and/or marine engineering upon graduating from high school.

Mara Kelley

When there is an opportunity to grow as a potential future educator, nothing stops Mara from signing up. A volunteer for many years in our local Goodwin Buddies program and member of our Perfect Pals club, Mara has also enrolled in two education-based internships this year, one at an elementary school and a spring one in the high school. Additionally, Mara is an active participant in this year’s Encountering Differences Program. Encountering Differences connect students with African American Adults in Southeastern Connecticut to learn about their personal and family histories and understand the challenges they continue to face.
As a student who supports and enjoys creative artistry, Mara has participated in many activities that promote healthy decision-making and positive self-expression. Dancing is perhaps Mara’s biggest passion in life. A talented clarinetist, bassoonist and singer, there are limits to her artistic strengths. Mara is also an instructor and mentor in our newly created Tap Club and an active thespian in our drama club where she was recently cast as the teacher in our Fall Play, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. Mara is an extremely active member of the Old Saybrook High School Community and she exemplifies the highest levels of commitment and discipline in all that she does.
