Superintendent Search BOE Final Update

Old Saybrook Community,

The Board of Education is pleased to announce that Christopher Drezek has been unanimously appointed the District’s new Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Drezek is an accomplished educational leader who creates innovative educational opportunities for students and fosters strong community partnerships. He is warm, engaging, and maintains a high standard of ethics and integrity. Mr. Drezek comes to us with a broad range of experience, having served as Enfield’s superintendent since 2017 and their Deputy Superintendent from 2012-2017. He also brings leadership experience in Human Resources, Operations, Financial, and Business Management, and he served as an assistant principal and a teacher early in his career. He has extensive experience in all facets of the work of a superintendent, and his leadership is student-centered. The Board carefully considered 32 applications and conducted rigorous interviews, and Mr. Drezek was consistently the top candidate, unanimously supported by every board member. He overwhelmingly met the criteria outlined in the Candidate Profile created by various stakeholder groups.

We understand that this process was long, and we tried to keep you as informed as possible under the guidance of the executive search firm we employed. Once again, we thank you and appreciate your patience and understanding over these last several months. Mr. Drezek is thrilled with his appointment and looks forward to being welcomed into our school community. He will form excellent partnerships with the administrative team, staff, students, and families. Over the next several months, there will be many opportunities to meet him as he spends time between Old Saybrook and Enfield as he transitions to full-time status this spring. Mrs. Perruccio’s official retirement date is April 1st; however, she has graciously agreed to be available to support her successor in the transition. She has been an outstanding leader for the past 11 years, and there are no words to express how grateful and appreciative the Board is for her dedicated service to the students and families in our district. She possesses every quality needed to be an effective leader: decisive, fair, innovative, and student-focused, all with the highest degree of integrity. We all wish her well in her retirement!

Thank you,

Karen Brodeur
