Matthew Walton Awarded Letter of Commendation from The Connecticut Association of Schools

Over the years, Mr. Walton has served the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS) in the following capacities:

  • Middle Level Board of Control 2017-2022

  • Awards and Recognition Board 2019-2025/Chair 2022-2025

  • CAS Board of Directors 2020-2024

  • Nominating Committee 2022-present

Mr. Walton not only works to serve the students, families, and community of Old Saybrook, but has also been an impactful leader who has made a meaningful difference for the students, administrators, and schools of our state.

Mr. Walton first joined CAS in 2017 as a member of the Middle Level Board of Control, supporting and elevating the work of middle-level leaders across the state with diligence and unwavering professionalism.  His deep understanding of the unique needs of this critical educational stage helped CAS in its efforts to strengthen both the leadership capacity of our middle school members and the learning experiences of the students we serve.

In 2019, Mr. Walton was selected to serve on the Awards and Recognition Committee, one of the association's more time-consuming and demanding responsibilities.  His thoroughness of preparation and knowledge of effective educational leadership practice made him perfectly suited to assume the role of chair when the position opened three years later.  In this role, Mr. Walton approached the important work of honoring excellence with discernment and sensitivity, and he ensured that the process for selecting our most prestigious award recipients was executed with fairness, sound judgment, and unerring ethical standards.

As a member of the CAS Board of Directors from 2020-2024, Mr. Walton's thoughtful engagement and well-considered opinions supported meaningful discussions and helped guide the ongoing work of the association.   The Connecticut Association of Schools is deeply grateful for the time, insight, and earnest effort Mr. Walton has given in service to the organization's shared mission.  In recognition of the excellence of his service, the board of directors awarded Mr. Walton with the Letter of Commendation.
