The regular Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, will be a one-topic Special Meeting to be held at 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria at the Kathleen E. Goodwin School.
The Special Meeting will focus on a presentation regarding the district’s ARC Core Curriculum, Old Saybrook Public Schools’ literacy program. The presentation will be delivered by district leadership and Kathleen E. Goodwin teachers.
ARC Core was one of six literacy programs identified by the State of Connecticut in 2022-2023 for district consideration as part of the Right to Read Act imposed by the state. The program was reviewed and selected by a school district committee in 2023. During the 2023–2024 academic year, a pilot group was established at Kathleen E. Goodwin School to test ARC Core. Feedback was gathered from participating parents, teachers, and students before the program was implemented in the 2024–2025 academic year. Since then, District Leadership and staff have been evaluating ways to better enhance and supplement our literacy structure.
Following the presentation, members of the audience will have an opportunity to offer comments and ask questions.
Superintendent Chris Drezek said, “We want to provide our community with an opportunity to ask questions and better understand our reading program. This meeting is intended to help clear up questions and concerns regarding our students’ reading capabilities, while ensuring that families and community members have access to accurate information about the ARC Core Curriculum and how it supports literacy instruction in our schools.”
Additional agenda details will be posted on the District website, www.oldsaybrookschools.org, in advance of the Special Meeting.
