Old Saybrook High School’s drama program is celebrating an exciting moment of recognition after this year’s production of Chicago earned major honors from two of the region’s most respected theater organizations.
Each year, school performances are reviewed by the Halo Awards from Seven Angels Theatre and the Stephen Sondheim Awards from Black Rock Theater. Both programs send multiple judges to evaluate productions using detailed scoring rubrics across a wide range of categories. Among them, the Stephen Sondheim Awards are especially competitive, reviewing approximately 50 schools each year from across multiple states.
This year, Old Saybrook High School received outstanding recognition. Mr. Milton and Ms. Willis were honored with nominations for Best Music Director and Best Director. Even more exciting, Old Saybrook High School students Beni Misenti and Tess Santarsiero were nominated for Best Actor and Best Actress for their performances in Chicago.
Their nominations are a tremendous accomplishment and come with an incredible opportunity. Beni and Tess will take part in a week-long intensive with renowned Broadway directors, actors, and choreographers before performing at the historic Shubert Theatre in New Haven during the awards ceremony. If either student wins, they will advance to the Jimmy Awards in New York City, often referred to as the Tony Awards for high school performers.
Please join us in congratulating Tess and Beni on this remarkable achievement and in celebrating the continued excellence of the Old Saybrook High School drama program.
