As Old Saybrook Public Schools prepares to welcome students back for the 2026-2027 school year, the district’s Food Services Department is sharing several updates designed to make school meals more convenient for families while continuing to expand healthy, locally sourced options for students.

We will continue to use SchoolCafé Family Hub, which was successfully introduced last year. Through SchoolCafé, families can submit Free and Reduced Meal applications online, add funds to student accounts, review transactions, place limits on student spending and access school menus once they are posted. Families who are unsure whether they qualify for Free or Reduced Meals are encouraged to submit an application online.

The district is also continuing its Farm to School efforts by purchasing and serving a variety of Connecticut-grown and Connecticut-made products. Students can expect items such as apples from Griswold, lettuce from Montville, maple syrup from Mashantucket and tortilla chips from Hartford. New this year, Old Saybrook High School will also pilot locally sourced beef from North Stonington.

Students at Old Saybrook High School will notice another change in the cafeteria this fall with the addition of a new dishwasher. The upgrade will allow the school to move away from disposable trays and return to reusable trays and real plates. It will also create new opportunities for Transition Team students to work in the kitchen and develop practical skills that can support future employment.

The August Food Services Newsletter also includes updated meal pricing, payment options and reminders about the district’s meal charging policy. Families may add money to student accounts through SchoolCafé, by personal check made payable to Old Saybrook Food Service or with cash.

School Nutrition Managers at each of the district’s three schools are also available to assist families with questions about meals and Food Services programming throughout the year.

Families are encouraged to review the full August 2026 Food Services Newsletter for additional information as Old Saybrook Public Schools prepares for another school year.
