This past weekend, Theo won the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation Kids European Championship in Dublin, Ireland, earning first place in one of the sport’s most competitive youth tournaments. Competing against a field of 28 of the top young athletes from around the world, Theo faced opponents representing Brazil, the United States, Asia, Russia, and Europe. In the tournament, he defeated the number one seeded competitor and top prospect from Brazil on his way to the championship.
Theo is currently ranked number one in the world for his age and weight class, a remarkable distinction for a student athlete of any age.
To achieve and maintain his high standing, Theo trains six days a week and has been competing in jiu jitsu for nearly five years, including the past two years at the national and international levels. Two days each week, he travels to White Plains, New York, to train at Essential Jiu Jitsu, one of the top gyms in the country.
In addition to his success in jiu jitsu, Theo also competed in wrestling for the first time this season and quickly made an impact. He earned a second-place finish at the USA Wrestling Connecticut State Championship, finishing with a 17-1 record, and also placed third at the New England Youth Championship.
Old Saybrook Public Schools congratulates Theo on this outstanding achievement. His discipline and dedication make him a wonderful representative of Kathleen E. Goodwin School and the entire Old Saybrook community.
