Students in American Literature and U.S. History recently participated in a joint field experience to The Breakers in Newport, Rhode Island, as an extension of their study of the 1920s. This trip provided students with connections to the themes explored in both courses, including wealth, social class, industrial growth, and the cultural shifts of the post–World War I era. Students were able to experience the beauty of the Breakers, the intensity of the Cliff Walk views, and an enjoyable lunch downtown.

Old Saybrook Boys Lacrosse opened the season with a 9-1 with over Old Lyme. The girls lost a heartbreaker 10-9 in OT to Old Lyme. Go Rams!

Yesterday, several of our Unified students spent the afternoon checking out the new Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Popcorn and plumbers were the order of the day.

Sixth-grade students kicked off National Poetry Month (April) by learning about a type of "found poetry" called Blackout Poetry. They analyzed samples, formulated a definition, and then brainstormed the steps for creating one. The experience culminated with an event where family, friends, administration, school, and Central Office staff, Board of Education members, community members, and poet laureates Dr. Sandy Yannone and Leah O'Connor joined us to create some poems together. Students became the teachers, and everyone was successful. It was a wonderful event!
