This week, our Old Saybrook High School and Grade 8 students had the opportunity to hear from Chris Herren, founder of The Herren Project.

Chris shared his powerful personal journey of how addiction took hold behind the scenes of a successful basketball career, and how recovery gave him a second chance at life. Through an honest, direct message, he spoke about choices, consequences, and the importance of seeking support.

Students described the presentation as “powerful” and said it “gave them a different perspective,” noting that Chris spoke to them like adults: real, respectful, and impactful.

We’re grateful to Chris Herren for helping our students reflect on decision-making, personal responsibility, and making healthy choices. Opportunities like this support student growth both inside and outside the classroom.

6th graders have been working hard to research and design an original species whose behaviors increased its chances of reproduction and helped it compete in "Survivor" challenges. THEN, we got the chance to compete in our own "Survival" challenges.
